FLORIDA KEYS SHARK FLIES - The Mad Pumpkin

THE MAD PUMPKIN

Florida Keys Shark Flies - The Mad Pumpkin

TYING THE MAD PUMPKIN
A great all around shark fly. This fly is also deadly in all black. You will notice I don't take much care in tying this fly. It's usually trashed after a shark gets a hold of it.
THE RECIPE
Tail: Orange Zonker strip, Pearl Flashabou
Body: Orange Marabou, palmered
Head: Dan Bailey's body fur
Thread: Orange
Hook: Mustad 3407SS
Hook Sizes: 2/0, 3/0

Starting midshank, cover the hook with some flat waxed Orange thread

STEP #2
Tie in thick piece of Orange Zonker Strip and some peark flashabou. Start the anti-foul process by wrapping 360 degrees around the base of the strip.

STEP #3
Tie in one marabou plume at the base, in front of the zonker strip.
TYING TIP
Always coat the fly with Sally Hansen's hard as nails after each step.

STEP #4
Now, palmer the marabou. After that is done, make sure you wrap just in front of the palmer to lay the marabou down
TYING TIP
It should look like this after a few wraps in front of the palmered marabou.

Annette (on left) with her first Redfish ever! And it was a nice one too! Mackerel and snapper bite has been awesome as well. Baby Tarpon are just starting to show back up with water temps hitting over 76 degrees. Early Spring time is near and my favorite time of year is coming, PERMIT FISHING! Cant wait for Feb and March!
