FLORIDA KEYS BONEFISH FLIES

THE GOTCHA
TYING THE GOTCHA
Not much to say about this must-have pattern. You should stuff as many as you can in your fly box. Proven to catch bonefish where ever they live.

THE RECIPE
Tail: Pearl Mylar Tubing
Body: Pearl Sparkle Braid
Thread: Pink
Eyes: Medium Bead Chain Eyes
Weed Guard: Optional
Hook: Mustad 34007
Hook Sizes: 2,4,1

STEP #1

Place a #4 mustad 34007 hook in your vice.

Starting at the eye of the hook, cover the hook with some flat waxed Pink thread
TYING TIP
If you are using 3/0 flat waxed, do not build up the thread too much. THis will cause problems later on when adding on the sparkle yarn

STEP #2

Tie in you medium bead chain eyes in the position show in the picture to the left.

TYING TIP

The positioning of the eyes is very important.

Make sure you dab some Hard As Nails after securing the eyes.

STEP #3

Starting behind the eyes, tie in some medium mylar tubing and cover it with the thread to the bend of the hook. After this, bring thread forward to the position you see in the picture to the left, just behind the eyes.

TYING TIP
I always use the end of my whip finisher to unraveled the Mylar tubing.

STEP #4
Tie in a piece of pearl diamond braid behind the eyes. Wind towards the back of the hook, covering the diamond braid it until it's in the position as shown to the left.
TYING TIP
While winding the pearl diamond braid back towards the eye of the hook, it is important to snug each turn so the wrap is very tight.

STEP #5
Make sure you figure eight the pearl diamond braid over the eyes. Secure and trim the braid.

TYING TIP
After tying off the braid, just wrap a few times to secure the braid so it doesn't unwrap. I usually give it 4 thread wraps. If you do this, the final head shape will be perfect due to the fact that you are not over wrapping.

STEP #6
Tie in your blonde craft fur.

TYING TIP
No tip for this step.

STEP #6
Tie in 6 sprigs of Chartreuse Krystal Flash and coat the head with Hard As Nails.

TYING TIP
No tip for this step.
