Light Tackle Shark Fishing in Islamorada and Marathon Florida Keys |
Light Tackle Shark Fishing
Hammers, Bulls, Lemons and Black Tips
|
Shark Fishing has become very popular in the past few years and to be honest it's one of my favorite things to do. Sight Casting big sharks in shallow water is an incredible thing to witness.
Big Hammerhead, Bull and Lemon sharks cruising down the chum slick searching for their next meal get rudely interrupted by sharp steel imbedded in their jaw. WIth reel screaming, away we go chasing the monster down until merely feet are between us and a massive creature. Using light tackle spinning rods, this challenge is not only fun but also a test to your endurance. |

| SHARK NOTES |
| Shark fishing is in the florida keys is way under-rated. This can be some of the best fishing you have ever done. catching large sharks up to 10 foot long on 20 lb spinning tackle is incredible. THe best part about this is that you actually cast to the sharks and watch them eat the bait!
You can catch sharks all year long here in the Keys but winter months bring cold fronts that can send them off the flats. |

FLY FISHING FOR SHARKS
Flippin' the Chicken
Fly Fishing for sharks?? Come again? I hear that all the time. Fly fishing for sharks takes patience and a little skill. I usually have more success fly fishing for sharks in "dirty water" or muddy water. There have been many days where multiple hook ups is the norm. Fighting these beasts on a fly rod also takes endurance. Just ask one of my client's Mark Phelps when he hooked into a Lemon shark that approximately weighed 250 lbs. plus. Broken rods, mayhem and a lot of laughter.. Come check it out! |

FISHING FOR SHARKS ON LIGHT SPINNING TACKLE
Sight Casting on the flats
Using Barracuda is the best way to lure in the sharks. Shark's have an incredible sense of smell and the slightest hint of blood or dead fish can draw them in from miles away. Once the sharks are in sight and within casting distance, you cast your bait within a few feet of the shark and watch it engulf the bait and scream off 100's of yards of line. The chase is on!!!
