THE ART OF THE DUBBING LOOP

"With deft fingers, the fly angler weaves a tale of deception through the art of dubbing loops. A delicate dance begins as strands of fine dubbing material are intricately looped onto the thread, creating a textured canvas that mimics the nuances of aquatic insects. With each wrap, the fly takes form, a lifelike illusion of prey. The dubbing loop technique transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary, giving life to a fly that beckons the discerning trout from its watery realm."

STEP 5

Place a 4  inch strip of cross cut chartreuse rabbit zonker as show in FIG 1. Cut the pelt with a very sharp pair of scissors.. Try not to cut the thread. :) Then slowly spin the dubbing loops with your dubbing twister as seen in FIG. 2. Once it's completely spun, take a dubbing brush or a small wire brush and comb it out before you start palmering it.

STEP 6

This is what it should look after you palmered the dubbing loop with the chartreuse rabbit.

STEP 7

Now, tie in another dubbing loop in preparation for the head.  The second picture is how I cut my craft fur. Cut yourself a strip from the backside. You must cut it from the side in which the hair is "falling off" the fabric.

STEP 8

Place the white craft fur (FIG. 1)in the dubbing loop and spin that sucker up! After it's spun it should look like the image in FIG. 2. Make sure you comb it out very well or use a bodkin to pick most of the trapped fibers.

STEP 9

FIG 1. After you palmered the white craft fur dubbing loop, it might now look like the image in FIG. 1. I for got to take a picture but no worries. Just comb out the craft fur with a dubbing brush and trim to your liking. I usually just pull on the fibers I don't want. They break fairly easily and then I will going around with the scissors for the final trim.

FIG 2. Final Picture. I just added a weed guard which I did not show.
