FLORIDA KEYS BONEFISHING
Poling along gin clear flats sight casting to tailing Bonefish in 6 to 12 inches of water can be the most heart stopping experience a fisherman can endure. As the tide falls or rises, Bonefish will move on to and invade shallow water flats in search of shrimp, crabs, and small fish. Whether spin fishing or fly fishing, the challenge of catching the world's smartest fish awaits you. When the moment arrives and you set the hook, be prepared for the most incredible spool smoking run that no other fish can match
FLY FISHING FOR BONEFISH
Flippin the Chicken
Fly fishing for bonefish can be more productive than using live bait especially on calm days where the slightest disturbance can send a bonefish running. A gently placed fly can be devastating and extremely
effective. The Spring and Fall are the best months for catching bonefish over 10lbs. but as far as my favorite month, I would
have to go with July. Tons of bonefish averaging 5-10 lbs invade the flats in the summer time for early morning feeding. Personally, I think this is the best time to bonefish in general.
PRIME TIME BONEFISH TIMES
July and August are my favorite times to bonefish in the Islamorada Backcountry. Calm mornings and prime tides bring swarms of tailing bonefish.
March and April - I have a lot of success fishing in Marathon this time of year. Depending on water temp, March can bring hordes of bonefish to the boat. Multiple fish days are not uncommon. I broke my personal record with 15 bonefish in one day this time of year, a triple header too!
